Clusteryuck

My head would not come off the pillow this morning.  My therapist appointment had to be cancelled.  I did finally summon the will to take a shower, with an "Ocean" shower steamer.  Currently, I'm on the couch with my head pressed firmly into its back.  In the past, a cluster headache would only last a day for me.  So much for precedent.

Barely Awake

I am so sleepy.  Which is incredibly rare for me lately.  Pills on pills on pills do nothing.  I'm waiting for a Publix delivery right now, after which I am going to bed.  That may really screw up the next few days, but so be it.

Shapes

These little footies may wind up victims of Yarn Chicken, so I wanted to memorialize how cute they are right now. The yarn is a tweed, first of all.  The heels are so fun to work, and look how clean the body sides are.  Even if I do run out of yarn, I'm likely to keep just this piece because it delights me so. Yes, another cluster headache today.  Nothing more to say there, except that it's on the right side instead of yesterday's left.

Etymology

Image
It's unclear why they're called "cluster" headaches when the pain can be identified with such precision.  It's an ice pick, or a kebab skewer sunk right into your skull.  I know "cluster" actually* describes that they come one right after another, relentlessly.   Yes, this has been my day. *probably

Cute All Around

Old-fashioned mail thrills me still.  A postcard, letter or card that's hand-written shows time taken and care.  Ergo,  choosing postage stamps is fun for me. These are fun, with pink highlights.  It's unlikely I'll use these, unless I get in a stamp bind.  Maybe frame them?  I'll order more to put to use. I have several of these that are cute as buttons. They are glazed, so super smooth, and they are tiny.   To use as planters, I'd be able to put maybe 2 seeds in each.  They're parked on the coffee table, and I kind of play with them.  They have holes in the bottom, or I'd use them to store beads.

No Spiders. PROMISE.

We'll start with Cute.   I told him to smile:   He went full pose. There's no reason for you to remember this, but some time ago there was a question about my big IKEA lion, Henrik.  I've decided to take him wherever I go.  I mean, look at his paws: Plus, he looks good in the Steelers hat. He seems displeased with either 1) wearing a hat, which covers his luxurious mane, or 2) it being a Steelers hat.  What can you do? Yesterday was Plant Day.  Several of the plants have new shoots, new leaves*, whatever the particular species does to reproduce.  That's all wonderful, and I'm proud, but now lots of bigger pots must be purchased.  Save a parking space for me, Lowe's. *

If You Don't Like Spiders, Scroll On

Image
Taking Tap out this morning, he noticed, and tried to play with, a spider at the door.  Very Buddhist of me, I picked it up with a baby wipe and took it outside with us.  Back inside, I Googled and found it was probably a grass spider.  Also on the picture identification chart, though, was Come on --- how cute is that?  Even the little head tilt!  This is a jumping spider, and jumping spiders are kind of amazing.  Look them up.  They can have blue and green eyes, not just black. They're polite.  They will wave hello.  They will raise their hand if they have a question. They can be curious.  Or maybe a little scared. But mainly they can jump. Like 50 times the length of their bodies.  With what have been described as "hydraulic" legs.  Amazing.

Did You Have This?

Image
Was your guess of which of Miss Kim's vegetable seeds would sprout first. . . cabbage? If so you win! Look at those adorable little leaves.  There's no movement, no sign of movement in any of the other little pots.  I'm so excited about these little guys.  Nothing may ever come of them, but they are making me happy today.

Perhaps You've Heard This Before

Equine Alley has grown to the point that new prints have to switch out with currently framed ones.  Today, I tried to move one out and one in, and I could not imagine how I got the backing board in the frame.  It was in so tight that, once I managed to get a couple of fingers under it, it snapped back and caught my left middle and ring fingers underneath. I got the middle finger out first, but the ring one would not move.  I actually screamed, "I can't get it out!"   Rushing through my head was, "Am I gonna have to break this whole frame?" when my finger slid out.  I put it in ice immediately, which stung where the finger was caught.  Fortunately, that seems to have pre-cancelled a bruise. You can see the red marks, though, on both nails, and possible bruiselines on the other side. We'll see where we are in the morning.  The ring finger is throbbing even now.

Little to Big

The headaches continue.  The doctor's advice was to halve the dose.  Some of these little pills are so small, its hard to get them in my pill cutter. Cast on for a pair of socks this afternoon, with Stroll Tweed in Dill Heather. They won't be anything special, but another little step toward fully comfortable knitting. My "Miss Kim" lilac is finally in the ground.  There were mix-ups (I received a hydrangea), lost shipments, but the lilac arrived.  Quite a bit worse for wear, but with some bright green leaves in with the crunchy, dead, brown ones.  Still, I hope, and we shall see.  Fingers crossed for this

Needles and Threads

Image
This is my little sewing kit. I'm not sure I'll use those flourescent threads very often, but it's cool that it's included.  Anyway, I needed to cinch something today, and instead of using one of my "regular" needle keepers, I decided to use the ones in the kit. Guys, the needles in this kit?  So tiny I could not get a photo of their eyes.  Seriously.  To drive home the message even more, these should have been the needles Jesus* had in mind: I've got a headache today.  Not news for me, I realize, but I started a new medication Wednesday, and have had a headache each day since.  As much as I hate to call a doctor's office on a Monday, I think I'd better tomorrow. Happy Birthday to Wear some boots today in Sam's honor. *Adult Jesus.  Not great hair/stand up in swaddle Baby Jesus.

Not Errands, Just Chores

So, the seed packet said "Wildflowers."  I got a nice bed of cilantro. Here are  wildflowers, though the heat is making it a struggle for them to bloom. (Hence the complicated underground irrigation system.) Saturdays are often days for errands, but everything I had to do was in the house.  There were a couple of plants that needed to be reported, plus some vegetable seeds that I wanted to plant.  Now, whether right now is the "right" time to put them in the dirt, I have absolutely no idea.  It's fun to watch seeds break through dirt anytime, am I right? Price stickers are still going up yard sale stuff.  I've actually taken up about all the space in the garage I can with boxes, and there are still things --- bigger things, like chairs and yard tools --- that are out of reach.  They all need to be cleaned and priced. Then there's this The bare beginning of a hat with New Mexico on it.  This has taken me so blasted long --- my fingers are try...

All I Did Was Take a Nap

Image
This afternoon, I suddenly got really sleepy and decided to take a nap.  When I woke up, it was dark, and I had no idea what time it was, what day it was.  It took me several minutes to get things straight. My tea roses are good.  They don't seem to have as much scent as larger roses, but maybe they need to bloom a bit more. Therapy day, and the roads I always travel on are torn to smithereens.  First day of  classes at UGA is the 17th;  they will never be done in time.  It's going to be a hellacious mess. The colors are supposed to distract you, I'm guessing.  This is only one small part of town.

The Nature of Things

Image
My sort of running joke is that my air plants don't get names.  The truth behind that is that there were too many plants for me to keep up with names. Now I have enough dirt-rooted plants that I'm losing track of their names that I've got to get those little garden stakes to write their names on. This guy is a Gollum fingers succulent.  No, really.  I wanted to stay away from obvious Lord   of   the   Rings  names, and landed on "Cuff." My  fingers are damaged because --->I banged up my rotator cuff ---> "Cuff." I'll write that on a little sign when I get one.  In the meantime, I'll try to come up with other names for the other plants... Still seeing interesting Nativities.  Here, Baby Jesus is still working great hair, but He is also. . . standing.  In His swaddling clothes.   Maybe it's the Equinox or something, when you can set both eggs and saviors on their end without them tipping over. I bought myself some litt...

Bullet Points Without the Bullets

Image
You know I enjoy my bullet point/ non sequitur entries.  Here's another one.  If you are lucky enough to have a  Paris Baguette  near you, I heartily recommend the grilled cheese.  When the bread crust is just as good as the sandwich, you know you've got a winner. It's August, so you know I've begun the search for my Nativity scene of the year.  There are lots from which to choose, including this one. The Holy Child was not only born with a lot  of hair, but there was clearly someone nearby* to help with the styling.  Even Mary is beautifully coiffed, and she just gave birth! I am the recipient of several packages of vegetable seeds: cabbage, lettuce, and tomatoes.  I like all three, but don't know when they need to go in the ground.  Homework assignment! I also have a potato that has sprouted many eyes, which will be thrown into the ground with hopes something will happen. If only one could grow Dr Pepper.  And Havarti cheese. *Pro...

It's Tuesday, Right?

Image
My big plans for today were squashed by this rotten, throbbing headache.  The only major thing that was accomplished was vacuuming.  Little piddly things, but not what I had in mind.   Anxious to pin this on my "Vasectomies Prevent Pregnancies" shirt:

This is so very on-point: (Tough weekend with my children.) At least I had a nice phone chat with my BFF to balance one of the days out.  She told me about  Buy Nothing  groups.  I'm looking for end tables for either side of my loveseat on the back porch.  I think I'm going to scope out the local  reStore  and see what they might have.  I suspect even if there aren't any tables there I like, my hands won't be empty when I leave.

Scrolling

When your day didn't provide interesting blog fodder, go to your camera roll. An article about toys we Baby Boomers Will Remember included Now, I don't remember Bouffant Barbie here, but she is really cute, isn't she? Twinnie  and I just had a discussion about Spirograph.  This is the one that had the little straight pins to hold the plate in place.  We were wild and carefree back then. Oh, man, I loved the Super Ball.  My friends and I would stand on the Alexanders' driveway (it was paved;  everyone else's was gravel.) and see who could get their Super Ball to bounce the highest.   A quick word about packaging "back then."  Nothing flashy, nothing busy or over-bright.  Just a plain statement about what the thing is.  Well, and the groovy rainbow circle.  No UPC codes, either;   price stickers for us.  Or the prices stamped on in ink, with what pretty much just a big library stamper. I hope none of these are AI modifi...
