Sometimes You Win

Congratulations, Adam Scott!

Fear

For as long as I've had a political sense (and that's a long time;  my father was quite political), there have been years where I really wanted the candidate I backed to win, but felt that waking up the next day would not feel all that different if (s)he didn't. Tonight, I am scared.  I am scared about what will happen to this country domestically and internationally if Mitt Romney is elected.  I am honestly fearful for what he would do in and to this nation that my children will be reaching adulthood in. I don't know what else I could have done here as far as re-electing President Obama, but I am so very terribly nervous that all of us who back him might have missed something, and will be paying (in almost countless ways) for it.

Let Me Paint You A Picture

The University of Georgia and Athens, Georgia are virtually the same thing.  UGA sits just about in the dead center of Athens, and Sanford Stadium sits just about in the center of UGA.  When there is a football game here, life is insane.  Today is a game day.  Well, game night --- kick-off is 7:45 PM.  There aren't that many roads into Athens, and as fans come in, they are all clogged to within an inch of their pavement.  The closer it gets to game time, the emptier the "out" streets become and the fuller the "in" streets. Amidst all the Knitters' Hunk and Chick goings-on, I failed to tell you that my son got a significant promotion at his job, and my daughter got re-hired at a restaurant where she worked during high school.  The restaurant has 2 locations: the one she usually works, which is about 3 minutes from our house, and the other, which is downtown. Downtown borders the UGA campus.  It is full of restaurants and bars and funky sho...

Nearer and nearer the end of the contests grow.  Are you nervous?  Frightened?  Intimidated?  Sad?  Well, I certainly hope you're able to vote, because there are still some blank lines on the brackets that need filling in.  Your decisions here will fill out the Knitters' Chick Final Four;  today's  victors will join Maggie Smith and Rachel McAdams. Your votes for the men will fill out the Knitters' Hunk Final Four, winners joining Stephen Colbert and Benedict Cumberbatch.  Which means the Semifinals are tomorrow, and the 2012 Knitters' Hunk and Knitters' Chick will be elected Monday! We are so very close to the Final Four!  In fact, we should have them in place by tomorrow.  You can spend part, if not all, of your weekend, deciding whom should wear the Knitters' Crown! Speaking of knitters --- as of right now, five people are still in the running for the Hunk grand prize, and four for the Chick prize.  You know who you are, because you know who you nominated.  I hope. As for yesterday, Emma Watson, Johnny Depp, Rachel McAdams and Benedict Cumberbatch all moved forward. And as for today, just to set everything up evenly: Pair Eighty-Five Pair Eighty-Six

Determine!

Liam Neeson, Stephen Colbert and Alan Rickman won yesterday, and are, therefore, in the Quarterfinals.  The tie between Jeremy Irons and Tom Selleck was broken, and the victor there gets right back into the action today to fill out the Final Eight.   In other pairs: Pair Seventy-Seven Pair Seventy-Eight Pair Seventy-Nine Pair Eighty

So far, the men's quarterfinalists are Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Robert Downey, Jr. and Nathan Fillion.  We'll get three more today, then, once the Irons/Selleck tie is broken, the eighth one will be very near indeed. Hope you all had a really nice weekend.  All rested and ready to express your opinions? Pair Seventy-Three Pair Seventy-Four Pair Seventy-Five Pair Seventy-Six

Judge!

I hope you all are having as much fun with this as me.  I say that at some point every year, probably, but I do mean it.  Your comments are terrific, and your options are getting more difficult, wouldn't you say? We aren't quite down to the final eight women in Knitters' Chick.  There were eleven votes cast for both Rashida Jones and Emma Watson, so we'll be revisiting them again soon, too.  Waiting for them in the Quarterfinals are Rachel McAdams, Anne Hathaway, Maggie Smith, Samantha Bee, Meryl Streep, Gillian Anderson and Rachel Maddow.  If you nominated any  of them, you are still in the running for the Chick Grand Prize. Remember, no voting over the weekend. Now.  On to today: Pair Sixty-Nine Pair Seventy Pair Seventy-One + Pair Seventy-Two

Choose!

With these selections, the first Knitters' Chick will have reached the Quarterfinals!  Thank you all so much for supporting this idea! We had a tie yesterday, which we will try to break in a couple of days: Jeremy Irons vs. Tom Selleck.  Clear winners were Jeff Daniels, Jimmy Fallon and Liam Neeson.  Here are your choices du jour: Pair Sixty-Five Pair Sixty-Six Pair Sixty-Seven Pair Sixty-Eight
