Huh?

Mads and Riley have been spending most of their time lately on the back porch.  Not too hot, not too cool there.  Tap and I are alternating between turning on and off the AC and turning on and off the heat in the rest of the house.
Where's my consistent Fall?  Where's the weather that lets me wear my handmade knits?  (Best I can do fancy-blog-wise, folks.)

Ever Feel a Wee Bit Inadequate?

With regard to my last post: discussing this question with a couple of people, family "things" dominate the answers.  I'm with this like I am my Seven Ideal Dinner Guest List: I don't go family, mostly because having to end the event would be too heartbreaking.

And, btw, I have more 3 Questions for another day.

While waiting to fall asleep last night, I started thinking about Fancy Blogs.  You know the type I'm talking about: the header photo is of a row of drying yarn, folded over the back garden gate.  It's yarn they hand-dyed using the berries they picked over that weekend in the mountains.  While waiting for the yarn to dry, they'll be mending that quilt of their great-grandmother's.  They found it in that cedar hope chest when their partner offered to refinish it once they get back from coaching their children's soccer games.  (Oh, and they also provided the postgame snacks, having come across a wonderful recipe for Quick Energy Bars.)

I'm lucky if I can find a stock photo or a publishable GIF to load here, and they're sharing pictures of their pretty crockery with pretty food on it on a table with an heirloom table runner and a seasonal floral arrangement visible in one of the upper corners.  How do they do that?  Even if, just off-camera, the dog is throwing up on the couch and the children are screaming at each other and that picture of the table is just shy of loads of things pushed out of view, they still found time to take and load pictures and come up with those Creative Writing-type entries.  Maybe when I'm trying to fall asleep tonight, I can cook up something interesting to say, and a poetic way to say it next time.

Right Up My Alley

My son, in addition to being a podcaster himself, enjoys listening to lots of podcasts.  We share many tastes, so I've found enjoyable episodes in casts he has recommended.  He likes "The JV Club," where comedian Janet Varney interviews famous and semi-famous people.  At the end of each episode, she asks her guests some interesting questions, and in one I listened to, she asked her guest, "If you could witness any three events in past history or in the future, what would they be?"

Mine:

1.  The Sermon on the Mount

2.  The Gettysburg Address

3.  The 1973 Preakness Stakes

What's In A Name

I imagine I went through the story of Tap's name when he got here, but last night I was working a crossword puzzle, and one of the clues told the entire story nicely.

You might remember that his name at the shelter was Gene Kelly.  Now, Kelly was remarkable in many ways, but that little guy (who could not make it up the front steps of this house when he arrived) was not a "Gene Kelly."  So, I went to my favorite dancer:

This is Charles "Honi" Coles.  Now, Little Guy wasn't a "Honi" either.  So, you go to the art form itself, and, *poof!*: name!

Finishes

I have tried to begin posts with each of the following, but nothing spurred a whole entry, so here they are all together.  Then I'll be done with them.

Reading, reading, reading:

The Collected Schizophrenias

Stamped

A Monster Calls

Walking With the Wind

Inferno

Prognosis

and some others.

All the Michigan ACLU Please Vote postcards have been finished and mailed back.

I watched "Anna Christie" (Garbo Speaks!)

My dandy lion/dandelion guy is done:

(Tap wishes me to share this photo of his most recent BarkBox toys, even though they have nothing to do with the "finishing" theme.)

Mail Call

Some of you are also doing this: I've been writing postcards to voters for the last several days.  Voters here in Georgia, plus in Kentucky and Michigan, will be getting cards with my purple ink on them.  I'm not sure if it's my posture, or the way I hold my pen or what, but I can't do too many at a time without my arm starting to hurt.  I think I'm down to about 50 more to go.

On the subject of mail, I've been giving avid bookshop here in Athens as much business as I can during the pandemic.  Most of it is to support a local business, but some of it is so I'll get these cool packages from them:

Yum Me

Last night, I decided that today was going to be a "Just Eat" day.  Since my weight loss, I've tried to be consistent and healthy in my food choices, but last night I wanted pizza.

Now, I prefer Pizza Hut pizza, despite the large number of "other" pizza places in town (it is a college town, after all.)  I went to the Pizza Hut site, and discovered that the store nearest me (as in just a skosh over a mile away) is no longer in business.  This is what comes from not having been out for all these months --- you don't know what's out there.  Or isn't.

But that was not going to keep me from Just Eat Day.  To Domino's I surfed.  Their Tracker took me all the way though the process: oven to door, which was kinda cool.  The young man who delivered was named Connor, and could not have been any friendlier or nicer.

All this to say 1) You go, Connor, and 2) I am eating the pizza as I want it, not trying to keep up with calories or what-percentage-of-what-color-food-groups and washing it down with not-keeping-up-with-them-either cans of Dr Pepper.

No, Really --- Pictures Today!

I've had a good nails game today.  This is a shiny deep burgundy called "Gloomy Kitty."

These are Tap's October Bark Box toys.  I think they're particularly cute.

Madeleine's been enjoying the Autumn sunshine on the back porch.

Photographic Evidence

This is my day.

Everything I tried to do frustrated me, and got tossed onto the coffee table.  My head hurt (still does) and Tap has been barking at who-knows-what-he-hears for three days.  Bad, bad mood.  Not a foretelling of the coming week, I hope.

Who Could This Be?

Well, it's an animal, I'll give you that much of a clue.  But what kind  of animal?  You can leave guesses in the comments, and mayb...
