Things You Can Hold

Kathy asked about Quincy's "hat" in the previous post.  These little things look like this (stock photo):

Somebody --- or Q himself --- just picked it up by the little unicorn fish (I misidentified it before) and plopped it on his head.

As Tap and I took our walk today, I found a feather.  Actually, I usually find one.

Walking along, with the leash and my single feather in my hand, I couldn't help but think of this:

Make, Repair

I made some fingerless gloves out of self-striping yarn, one right after the other, and look how they line up, color-wise:

Unfortunately, the spectrum doesn't continue when the mitts are flipped over:

In other sock yarn news:

Yesterday was spent with plumbers and electricians, trying to diagnose and repair a water heater that wasn't heating water.  It all came down to a loose wire connection.  Still, it was hours of inconvenience and Tap barking and barking and barking.  My water heater is under the house, so Tap was hearing noises coming up through the floor --- as if unknown people in and around the house weren't aggravating and confusing him enough.  It might have been kind of comical if it hadn't gone on so long.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

DMC has a line of products called Top This! --- yarn kits that, originally, were for making hats for children.  Ingenuity, however, led to other uses, and I have made several of the little "blankies."  One I sent to my cousin's grandson when he was born.  It became a favorite chew-on when he was teething.

This week, the grandfamily moved, and I received these photos of Quincy helping with the packing, and what happened when he found my gift:

Needles and Needles and Music

I got my second dose of the COVID vaccine yesterday and had prepped for any of the horror stories about the second that are going around.  Nothing.  My arm is sore, and I'm a little extra tired/sleepy, but nothing more.  Briton got his today, and, as far as I know, is also doing well.  Once Hannah gets hers Sunday, it'll only be a little time before we can all hug one another again!

The past couple of days have been fairly uneventful here.  I can't seem to get into a reading mood for some reason, which is a shame, because I'm a few pages into a book about the music from and in Athens, and it's good.

I've been making fingerless mitts, with two small balls of self-striping yarn I did not remember having.  I've also got a cardigan on some needles and that hooded pullover sweater on the ironing (blocking) board one piece at a time.  I don't mind putting things together, but, boy, I do not like blocking.

A Couple of Things

A couple of things.  What's all this couple things stuff lately?

Every other Wednesday is Misfits Market day here.  Today, I got a very pretty little cabbage.

Now, it took me a few seconds, but I noticed something unusual here.  Can you make it out?  There at the bottom:

It may not be a cabbage at all.  It may be the top of a Brussels sprouts plant.  We grew some Brussels sprouts in my mother's garden one year, but only one.  She did not like how the plants look;  she said they gave her shudders.

Speaking of Mama, I came across this the other day:
Two things here.  First, I remember this lace very well.  I don't know how many times she knit some and trimmed pillowcases and/or sheets for gifts.  Second, look at that writing.  I wish cursive were still taught.

Do: Read On

I have an astrology app on my phone that provides daily lists of "Dos" and "Don'ts."  Usually, they're sort of esoteric things, like "Do: Brick-oven pizza," or "Don't:  Analog watches."  Today, one of the "Dos" was fairly specific for me --- "Do: Cable knitting."  Now, it may have been that this was the day I would finish my twisted cowl anyway, but here's what I did finish today:

Not truly cabled, but cabled in look.

The "Homebody Sweater But Without 'Homebody'" sweater has been put into deep time-out.  I got lost on the front shaping and couldn't deal with making sense of it, so deep-sixed it.  You may or may not ever see it again.

Circle Game

I don't knit on circulars that much, but when I do, the projects are great fun.  Currently, I have two projects on two sets of circulars, both with purple yarn.

First, a basic pullover sweater (without "Homebody" on it)

out of this

and a chunky twisted cowl

Thanks to Lion Brand for both.

Thursday Stuff

If y'all want to waste, oh, I don't know, an entire afternoon, start watching airport arrests videos on YouTube.  I will warn you: ...
