Not Mad, Just Disappointed

Well, I've been 62 for a week now, and I have to say, it hasn't been all that great.  Nothing on the day, a single card in the days since, and it got here today.  A tumble down the stairs which cracked the navicular bone of my right foot (the one on top --- I didn't know either), along with banging up my left knee and severely spraining my right ankle and toes.  I'd never thought about sprained toes --- now I've got five of them.

A Revisit

I know my bowed index fingers have been discussed here, but today I saw something that brought the issue into new focus.  My now-62-year-old hand:

The ring is lined up with the knuckle at the top of my palm.  Look where my middle finger-knuckle is in relation to it.  That sucker is twisted.

Second Task

I showed you the finished mittens;  here are the finished booksteps:

You can see a little stack of "What will I do with these?" books still on the steps.  They've yet to be dealt with.  But, yes, this is indeed "thinned out."

On the the Front Burners

This has been my project of late:

I'm thinning out the books I have on the stairs.  This is where books go after being read, and they are creeping ever closer to the Very Bottom.   I'll be reading more, so, space is needed.  Some of the books will go to the Athens Library, some will go to Little Libraries around town, some will be packed away.  Some, as you can see, will stay on the stairs.

The thing is, I don't read books twice.  Every one of these could leave the house, but parting with so many of them would be difficult.  Get rid of all my Lincoln books?  Not.  Happening.

Another work in progress is a pair of mittens made with yarn left over from the cowl/capelet.  It's going to be tight, but I think I can get two.

Weird Tangents Again

Is there such a thing as narrow daylight?

If you've been knitting on 2s or 3s, switching to a pair of 5s feels like knitting with broom handles.

My daughter made a point the other day that I had never considered.  With virtual learning now, children won't know the thrill of a snow day.  That makes me almost inexpressibly sad.

What magic it always was to hear those words. . .

Does anyone else scratch their back on door jambs?*

Why are there no instant sweet potatoes?

"Throw up" and "throw down" are not the opposites of one another.  What is up with that?  English is so weird.

Now, if you go with the verb there, the opposite of "throw" up should be "catch" down, which has no meaning that I know of.  The opposite of "throw down" should be "catch up," but that's also the name of a condiment, and we're right back to how weird this language is.

And another thing about this language: which came first, "gander" as a noun or a verb?  And who took that primary usage and thought, "There's another good use for that word"?

DIY

An audience question came in about my hiccups fit.  Specifically, the question was about how I stopped it.  The answer, Dear Reader, is that this time I just let it run its course.  It was that thing where there are enough seconds in between the individual hiccups that you think you're done, but you're not.  Very irritating when you're trying to get those nails done.

Breath-holding and water-drinking have never worked for me.  The only thing that has ever worked is letting a spoon of suger dissolve im my mouth slowly.  It was taught to me by my 6th grade PE teacher, Mrs. Koenig.  Now, understand, the sugar hasn't always worked, but more times than not it has.

Yes, of course that's sugar!  What are you thinking?

When I was pregnant with Briton, he got the hiccups fairly frequently.  There are a lot of fun sensations when you're pregnant, and that was one of my favorites.
