What It Shall Be

This

will one day soon be this.
(This is the how-much-more-Kim-could-a-puzzle-be puzzle I spoke of earlier.)

From left to right, these
will be a new pair of socks and a Finished Book.

What It Is

Another desk day here.  Writing postcards, balancing my checkbook, doing other "paperwork."  I'm sure this has been said here before, but I love writing, working, just sitting at a desk.  Always have.

I got going on the second bootie sock today.
The heel is more a little pocket, which is spiffy.  I'd tell you the brand of the yarn, but the identifying band is long gone.

Purple tea on tap today:
That's Blue Raspberry from Bird and Blend, a wonderful online shop with delicious teas.

Also on the drink front, did you know there is orange milk?
Yes, it does taste like a Creamsicle.  It's delicious and it comes in a glass bottle, so I am all in.

What It Was

Did you guess little bootie socks?
The roll-top always makes me happy.

Despite the craziness going on in parts of Georgia (including the county next door to this one), I'm still staying in.  If Tap and I take a walk of any length, I wear a mask.

How are things with you?  Staying safe and sane?

How Are You at Questions?

Care to hazard a guess as to what this is going to be?

How does he breathe when he sits like this?

Can you have bed head all over your face?

And. . . Done

The finished shawl.  I'm really happy that it started and ended on the same wine/aubergine color.

Here and There

Really, I've no idea why I'm such a snob about how tea looks in a cup.  But here we are.

Like many, many people, the end of quarantine can't come soon enough haircut-wise.  Some days all the hair I still have minds what I do while drying it, though.

There was nothing in my mail today except catalogs.  Nothing.  Due to Mother's Day coming up?

Wound a ball of Ancient Arts Yarn worsted in Amethyst this afternoon.  My knees are my swift.  I'm not sure what this yarn will become yet, but it's at the ready when a decision is made.

Photo Essay

Started my day with some blue tea.
Blue tea and a tin of crayons, to be exact.

This Malabrigo has refused to be anything yet.  Fingers crossed for the One Row Wonder Shawl.

I worked on it while watching

There was a cup of crimson red tea.
Other colors, too, through the day --- this was just especially photo-worthy

Daily

I showed you this yarn a while ago;  this is where I am with it now.

I was looking forward to getting to this part of the skein, and here I am:

From my windows, it looks like more and more people are moving up and down the main street my street intersects with.  It is infuriating.  A couple of days ago, this article about Athens appeared in Politico.  The photos in that story belie the amount of activity I'm seeing.  And I know I'm doing the right thing by staying home.  And my son is doing the right thing by staying home.  My daughter is doing all she can to stay sane while having to go to work and carrying a letter to show to anyone who asks explaining that she is "essential."  I cannot control what other people do (or don't do);  I can only control what I do.  I'm still allowed to be angry about those morons, though, right?

Surprise, Surprise

I ventured into Briton's closet the other day (the only one I haven't cleaned out completely) to see if there were any clothes that could be cut into for face masks.  This was sitting on the top shelf in a back corner:

Now, I don't know why it didn't get packed away with all the other puzzles around here.  Perhaps I had some sort of genuinely weird pandemic premonition?  Anyway, I can work it now.  Well, I am working it now --- the border's done.

I've only found a tiny bit of fabric that can be used for face masks.  I did manage to scrounge up some hair elastics, and found an old fitted sheet that I cut the elastic off of.  This effort may not be successful in any meaningful way, but I'm going to give it a go.

How are you holding up?

I Cried Today

. . .because I hadn't yet.

. . .because I watched tape of cities thanking first responders, and first responders thanking each other.

. . .because people are not taking this seriously, and we are killing one another because of that.

. . .because New York is burying people in trenches, and funeral homes everywhere are outmatched.

. . .because I can't hug my son.

. . .because my daughter is scared for her life every single day she has to go to work.

. . .because I'm scared, too.

Where, Oh Where

I had to make an unexpected, hair-on-fire trip to Atlanta yesterday and was rewarded by being given one of Hannah's handmade face masks.

I'd like to be making some myself, but cannot find the right size of elastic anywhere.  There are sources of fabric all around the house, but without the elasstic, it's all for naught.

A Finish

There are gold foil feathers and gold foil highlights on feathers that were hard to photograph.  So,  here's the picture of the puzzle that came with it.  (When, by the way, did that become a thing?  I've always propped the box top up and referenced it that way.)

Feather and fan scarf, shawl, cowl/capelet.  The knitting isn't exciting, but the color changes keep it interesting.

Mothering

Real quick, 'cause I've got a brutal headache that needs to be put to bed.

I can't seem to come up with a click-through link to it, but if you'd like to see my glorious son doing online library work, go here:

Could not love him more or be any prouder of him.

Things Keep Rolling Along, Don't They?

Briton had his car towed to the dealership late this afternoon.  The odd thing was the tow truck driver was on his way to pick up another Prius.  Maybe there was a Prius /Pandemic pact we didn't know about?

(That was a nice, though short, string of "P" words.)

Hannah read on Twitter that a cat in Belgium caught COVID-19 from its owner, and she PANICKED.  Klunk with his immunity most likely compromised, her working every day and not knowing who she's coming in contact with. . .  It took a good while to talk her down and tell her all she needed to do was call the vet and ask if that were possible.  She finally did and was told that, as long as she's not sick, Klunk will be fine.  She was relieved, but I could almost hear the gears turning in her head.  She's nervous enough about having to continue working right now --- with the possibility of Klunk maybe getting sick, there'll be another panicked phone call in my future.

Cat-wise, I had to grab this photo chance while it was there.  These two get along just fine, but having both of them in a photograph-worthy state could not be missed.

Here

I'm making these fingerless mitts.  The pattern calls for double-pointeds (which we all know my history with), but I'm making them flat and then seaming up.  The yarn is Malabrigo in Damask Rose.

Though I know corona isn't transmissible between species, it was still funny today that when I sneezed one time, Tap looked at me and moved as far down the couch as he could possibly squeeze himself.

In "It Doesn't Matter As Much Now As It Usually Would" news, Briton's car won't start.  It's a hybrid, and he doesn't think a regular jump would help.  He doesn't have to be anywhere, obviously, but he will have to get it fixed somehow, sometime.  Which may involve me in some way.  Which is bothering more than I had thought it would.  Better the two of us share a car, though, than him ride with a tow truck driver or in the dealership shuttle.

Thursday Stuff

If y'all want to waste, oh, I don't know, an entire afternoon, start watching airport arrests videos on YouTube.  I will warn you: ...
