Weather

Another rainy day in Athens.  I've commented ad infinitum about how I love the rain, despite my tendency to suffer bad sinus headaches when it is near.  Currently in the grip of both a sinus infection and an ear infection, I'm not enjoying today's weather as much as usual, but it's still nice to watch.

B-Cat and The Tapper

When I was in grad school, I contracted pneumonia.  Dale had already moved here while I finished out the school year in Tuscaloosa, so it was sort of just me and our cat Barrymore in sickbay.  Now, people say it isn't possible for humans to pass along illnesses to animals, but I saw him (Barrymore) get sick while I was recuperating.  We both recovered fully, so don't worry.

Since I've been sick this past week, Tap has been dutifully by my side, sometimes jumping up into my lap if I'm sitting or onto my side if I'm lying down.  As I inch toward feeling better, he's still there ---  still here --- and I'm beginning to wonder if it's because he's still playing caretaker, or because he's feeling bad himself.  Hey, it happened once before. . .

Things

Things I'm Learning While Sick
1.  Tap does not --- not --- like me in bed during the day.  He only settles down when I'm in the den.
2.  Ricola Herbal Immunity Honey lozenges are kind of tasty, even without a cough-y sore throat.
3.  If you can self-diagnose, going to the walk-in clinic is probably a waste of time.  Plus, all the people there are sick, too, and you might get worse.  (Sinus and ear infections, btw.  Antibiotics prescribed.)

Things I'm Thinking About While Sick
1.  I'm glad I grew up in the era of mercury thermometers.  It'd be too hard to fake a fever with a digital.
2.  Thank goodness for hot chocolate, and tea, K-pods.

Thank, Web MD

Dull headache, joint pain, low-grade fever, stuffy nose, achy skin --- I'm either suffering from a cold, a sinus infection, flu, or about half a dozen other ailments.  All I know is that I feel bad and just want to stay in bed under my quilts, sleeping as much as possible.

Nice Looking

It's "One Spooky Night" at the library, and Briton has broken out his best Mr. Rogers gear.

He said he's going to change shoes often, and call everyone "Neighbor."

And if that weren't cute enough, how 'bout a sleepy, skooshed-up puppy?

Like Fall

It's cold and rainy today, and I am luxuriating in it.

I've made a mitten

and worked on a simple ribbed cowl and an asymmetrical shawl.  This is the photo from the shawl pattern, and the asymmetry isn't obvious:
Trust me, in real life, it is.  And it's sort of unnerving, having made shawls and cowls and scarves all these years with an equal number of stitches on either side of the center.

Hannah sent me this picture earlier.  She said she got home from work and couldn't find Nell.  She finally uncovered The Hiding Spot.
A slightly unzipped suitcase.  The girl can hide.

Days Daze and Cats

I try hard not to make this blog a dumping ground for all my worries and woes.  Therefore, all I shall say tonight is that my life the last couple of weeks had held very little beside worries, woes and various types of pain.

So, to cute pictures.

I took Nell and Klunk back to Hannah yesterday.  Her in a carrier is just about the only way to get a photo of her.  Otherwise, she shows up through the lens as a tortoiseshell blur.

While they were here, Klunk seemed to enjoy my new Snoopy sheets.  (Granted, he likes anything he can curl up on and/or under.)

Housemates

I've had the Blogger tab open for two days, waiting for inspiration to hit.  There's a lot going on with both Hannah and Briton, but not with me.  Except that Mama always, somehow, bears the brunt of her children's troubles.

Klunk and Nell are still here.  Hopefully, they'll be joining Hannah in a new place for them come Tuesday.  She is much too fast and much too little to be allowed to roam anywhere but my bedroom-with-the-door-closed.  Klunk, though, used to live here, is not particularly quick, and so has free rein every now and then.  For the past several days, when I let him out, he heads upstairs.

And goes over to the door to Hannah's room.

He remembers.  But this is also a way to put distance between himself and Tap.

Prompt #2

Do you find skeletons interesting or scary?
Interesting.  I've never found them the least bit scary.  Part of that, I admit, is from my ghoulish interest in murder and murderers.  Still, if you stop and think about the body, it's a remarkable machine, wonder-fully knitted together.

If you ever have a chance, and aren't terribly squeamish about such things, I strongly recommend your visiting Bodies: The Exhibition.  It's one of the most fascinating and powerful things I've ever seen.  Hannah and I still talk about the day we spent there.

Today

Today, I turned the heat on for a little while and got that wonderful dust-burning-off-the-coils smell.  That is one of my favorites.

Today, I wore a pair of boots for the first time this Fall.  I even broke a pair of knee socks (knee socks; yes, I am almost 60.)  to wear with them.

Two Finishes

That pretty Karin's Wrap out of the soft, pretty
Latte Cakes yarn in Coconut Cream?  Someone got on it / into it, pulled it off the needle and unraveled it beyond any patience I have to get it all going again.  So it got unraveled the rest of the way, and it will live to be reborn another day.

I did finish the Are-These-Two-Colors-Too-Different Scarf:
Honestly, there is much more difference between the two sides than this photo shows.  It's too long to get all in one photo, so I draped it on part of the cat tower in the sunlight.  I'm still not sure about it.

Prompt #1

Do any of you have a Five Below store nearby?  I found a book called 400 Writing Prompts a while back at mine, and thought it would light a fire under me on the days blog post ideas escaped me.  Needless to say, it's sitting on my desk.  I did, though, look at the first page, and the first prompt is:

If you could put a message in a bottle, what would it say, and who would you want to find it?
"Be patient."
"Sit still when you can."
"Ask questions."
"Dreaming keeps you sane."

I'd want someone who really needed the message to find it.

Decision

Thanks for your answers about and support on my ruffle problem.  Twinnie suggested thinking of the two hues as creating a "yin/yang" scarf.  I had thought of that myself.  I'm going to plunge ahead, and see what the finished thing looks like.

Opinion-Seeking

Just tied in the second hank of yarn on my ruffle scarf, and, man is it obvious.  Same dye lot, but. . .
Should I keep going, or is it too distracting?

Melange

Since they're called "doughnuts," it would seem they weren't created until after the piece of hardware.  That seems weird to me.

My father's name was Briton.  My mother's maiden name was England.  How karmic is that?

It dawned on me one day that it's called an elevator because it elevates you.

Why did this cross-stitched Basset make me think of Sam Elliott?
And how cute is that little rabbit?

I accidentally reached into the wrong bag today and bit into one of Tap's treats.  Honestly?  Edible.
(Yes, hemp extract.  Stop your giggling.)

Why is it "you're 'welcome'?"  What definition of "welcome" fits that usage at all?

I sort of twisted my knee yesterday.  Hannah's cats are staying on the back porch, and I was going out to feed them.  I was carrying water, food and a bag for emptying the litter box.  In the process of opening the door, trying to keep Tap out and Klunk in, I lost my balance.  Food and water everywhere.  Torqued knee that's been iffy all day today.  Thank goodness I have a bracing sleeve.
