First Time, Repeat

Image
Of course, my little friend Elion Koteas didn't vote, but the sticker looks cuter on him than me. I'm happy to say business at the polling site was very brisk, and had been all day, according to the workers.  Signing in next to me was a first-time voter.  Whoever signs a first-timer in rings a bell, and the room applauds.  The young woman was rightly a little embarrassed, but I couldn't help but feel good about the whole thing. I've cast on for a pullover sweater.  This morning, I spent a lot of time looking for cardigan patterns, because that's where my real itch has been.  None of the patterns, though, lined up with the amount of yarn I have, so pullover it is.  It's called a Condo sweater, and I've made it before.  You use sizes 6 and 15 needles, alternating rows.  This pattern has been in my knitting folder since shortly after I started knitting, so it may be out of fashion at this point. Don't care if it is.  It's super-comfortable....

Not surprisingly, I have a crush on more than one actor.  I spent an hour and 40 minutes with one this afternoon: Chris Evans in "Sacrifice," on Netflix.  As a movie, it's maybe a "B."  John Malkovich is in a very few scenes, and is extraordinary.  Frankly, any movie under two hours these days is a welcome wonder, and it would take a lot to get me not to watch  Christopher. Mundane day.  Pick up prescriptions, work on a bandana I'm making with yarn left from the cowl.  It's not going to be as big as the leftover yarn had me thinking, but I won't stop now.  It's a clear, cool day, and I've been knitting on my loveseat in my back porch room.  Just exactly one of the reasons I put it together.

The cowl is finished.  It won't be worn over my nose, obviously,  but that was the best way to show the color graduations.  My next project?  Who can say? Just a day of laundry and errands, though when you have to avail yourself of a laundromat, laundry is an errand.  Tomorrow is Briton's birthday, but he has lots of plans on his own, so I doubt I'll see him.  I do plan on going to vote early, so I'll seeing if I can make an adventure out of that.

Last Choice

Image
A sunny and very breezy day here.  If the leaves weren't still green, I'd call it a perfect Autumn one. And finally Would you rather spend a day with Jane Austen OR Spend a day with William Shakespeare?* *Though Austen might be delightful company, I'd choose Shakespeare, just to see how --- and how quickly --- he writes.

Next to Last

Would you rather spend the rest of your life in a library OR in a museum?* (You know,  The Morgan  in NYC is both.) *Simple.  Library.

'Tis the Season

You "can" be trapped in a room full of snakes OR you "can" be trapped in a room full of spiders.*  Ooooooh. . .   Spooooooky. . . Halloween is no big thing for me.  Never has been.  And I always cringe when it's referred to as a "holiday."  A holiday is when things are closed and you don't have to go to work.  I always had to teach on Halloween, so. . .  Yeah. This is now finished and ready for framing. That's probably as fast as I've finished a piece.  Another from  Subversive Cross Stitch .  Words and borders are pretty quickly done, and I do enjoy so many of their designs.  You can buy frames on the site, too, which I've done a couple of times, but didn't for this one. *Spiders.  They don't bother me so much.  🕷

Down the Stretch

Image
We're nearing the end of What Would You Choose.  Prizes are boxed up.  As for today: Would you rather never sleep again OR never eat again? Now, I'm assuming, for game purposes, neither decision will prove fatal, nor harmful.  For me, I'd choose losing food over losing sleep.  I'm terribly dissatisfied with my weight, and I love a good snuggling down under quilts and blankets. The GIF was from "Bewitched."  Join me in having that theme song stuck in your head, won't you?

For Extra Credit

Image
Who knows where yesterday's GIF came from?  Not the site where I got it, but its original source. . . Life has been turmoil this week.  Plumbing problems that had me calling a septic service, only to be told it needed to be tended to by a plumber.  My bank account/debit card was hacked again --- 3 times in a month.  Trip to the bank to try to get things under control, and hopefully they are.  All that's left is for me to have all the adrenaline and worry and stress to dump out, and to catch up on sleep. Waiting for the service guys, then waiting to turn water on and off and on while they were here, I did a lot of a cross-stitch piece. Only "You" and the rest of the border to go. I got gas yesterday, and the amount on the pump from the person before me was $148.39.  OUCH.  I realize it was probably a big van or truck, but still --- OUCH. The only food you are allowed to eat will be picked by a 3-year-old OR The only films and TV you are allowed to see w...

Word Problem

You will be given $1 million if you post a selfie every time you eat a meal for ten years OR You will be given $1 million if you never check social media in the next ten years.  I don't do social media now.  Where's my money?

Hold On a Minute

Pizza and cake OR tacos and pie? Should we swap places with the desserts?  Does that make things better/easier?  What kind of cake?  What kind of pie?  What kind of pizza?  There are so many POSSIBILITIES!

Powers

Imagine you can see into the future, but cannot tell a soul what happens OR Imagine you can read minds, but always have to reveal what you know.

Sunday Says

Image
I went 3D printer for my yearly Nativity: I don't mean I made it;  it was bought.  I don't entirely understand 3D printing.  The curve and flow of Mary's hair and headscarf are pretty, don't you think?  You generally don't see the Holy Child's feet, but there they are.  Little toes and all. Speaking of feet, both of mine can glow now.   This yarn split like the dickens, so I'm glad this project is done.  This little pattern I go back to over and over; I've probably knit more booties than socks. I suppose my current knitting is cold-weather-oriented: a scarf, a cowl and a hat.  Surprisingly, I'm in a cardigan mood all of a sudden.  I need to finish at least a couple, if not all, of these first. Would you rather backpack around the world for 6 months, with not much money OR stay at a resort for 2 weeks with all expenses paid.* *Is it just me, or are some of these choices really  easy?  Resort, of course.

Accommodations

Image
You live in a little apartment in the center of town OR a little cabin in a secluded forest... I'll go with a cabin.  I do like a nice apartment, but a cozy little place with a fire?  No worries about neighbors?  Win. It's rained here all day.  Never particularly hard, but quite steady.  There were 6 or 8 minutes of sun at Noon, then right back to the rain.  There are spotty power outages and trees down, but not right here.  There weren't even that many branches down in the yard.

Storms and Yuck

Image
Last night, it seemed I was starting to feel better, but   Today I feel flu-ish.  Sleepy and heavy and achy.   Gimme back my plain ol' cold, please. Which sounds more fun: Skydiving OR Submarining^? We are under a high wind advisory for the next couple of days, off the hurricane.  It's been breezy today, and a few small limbs have already come off trees.  I think it's rain tomorrow and thunderstorms Sunday.  It's something to look out at these clouds and know they've been churned up by a storm  hundreds of miles away. ^Well, those are two of my phobias: heights and enclosed spaces.  I'll go with skydiving, though.  Never, ever inside a tube submerged in something I'm unable to swim through.

Did You Watch GoT?

Image
Like my Twinnie, I've been parked on the couch and in my bed, alternately.  What is it with colds that knocks us so low? Would you rather have the power to make unicorns real OR the power to make dragons real? Dragons.  Don't wish to deal with squealing girls.  And if a dragon gets out of hand, I can call Jaime Lannister or Bronn the Sellsword to take care of it.

Knee-Slapper

Image
It's an MST3K joke, but it sprang right to mind immediately when I saw this photo: "And I told her that in school, I was an Ursa Major!" Today's query is Would you rather have fifty turtles living in your house OR One hundred canaries living in your house?● ●Turtles.  If it were 50 canaries, too, I'd need to have a think, but as is,

Before the Benadryl Takes Hold

You can change one aspect of your physical appearance  OR You can dramatically increase your intellect* *Going shallow here: my appearance.

How 'Bout No Sneezing?

Image
Most of my days are spent barefoot, wearing leggings and a t-shirt.  Today, I'm wearing slippers (which is just not me), socks (less not me, but stil...), leggings, t-shirt, hoodie jacket (sometimes the hood is up), handwarmers (they're really cute*), and a knit blanket around my shoulders. I'm sick.  My head feels like a bowling ball with all the finger holes clogged.  My ears hurt on the inside.  My throat's not sore, but I've sneezed for 2 days.  Y'all all know how it feels. At any rate, the questions must go on. No talking daily from 9 AM to 5 PM OR No eating daily from 9 AM to 5 PM × * ×This is a coin flip for me.  I don't do all that much talking as it is, and I surely need to cut WAY back on eating.

Deep Fake

Image
Would you prefer access to a time machine  OR access to a teleportation machine?` Bought some super  cheap fake nails and put them on my left fingers tonight, trying to channel 70s Cher: I didn't think about, after having nails on the left, I'd need to put some on my right.  I haven't gotten around to that just yet. The glueness of the whole thing is all that "worries" me.  I don't want my actual nail to come off when the fake one's removed. `Time.  Going backward.   Not to change anything (because where would you even start...), but to see certain people and events.

Technological Choice

You can receive text messages, but cannot send them OR You can send text messages, but cannot receive them^ I've felt off-balance, out of sorts today.  I almost cancelled my therapy appointment.  It feels like maybe one (or more) of my medications isn't effective anymore. The process, though, of coming off one and trying another, new one is so laborious, so time-consuming, and there's no assurance that the new one is going to work.  Depression is just awful. ^Send, but not receive.  Obviously, the phone works, so they can call me if they need to.

Wet All the Way Through, or Just in Spots?

Image
You're stuck in wet jeans for the day OR You're stuck in a wet turtleneck all day◇ The new  Stitchery  catalog arrived today, and I love the cover piece: I would love to make it, but my patience runs out so quickly with things lately, I don't know if I could.  Plus, the kit is $68.  There is a little piece with foxes that I might could do: I'm kind of into foxes lately. Also, I'm lately fascinated with/by food art. This one boggles my mind.  How do people think of, then manifest, these things? ◇I'll assume they're both soaked through.  Turtleneck.
