Today I Learned...

...that Hamburger Helper makes breakfast meals.

...that all mammals have 7 bones in their necks.  Well, except manatees and sloths.  Six for manatees, five, six or nine for the different species of sloth.

(I also learned that many people have posted drawings of manatees and sloths together.  Thankful credit to whoever drew this one.)

...that if you bookmark just one online recipe for Basque Cheesecake, you will be inundated with recipes for Basque Cheesecake.

...that if you are inundated with recipes for Basque Cheesecake, you will decide that there is nothing else in the world that you can possibly eat besides Basque Cheesecake.  In the world.

...that the "space pen" NASA sent on missions took years to develop.  Russian cosmonauts used pencils.

...that you can call naked mole rats "gnashing little phalluses" (😆) in print.  My children and I have had more than eight discussions about naked mole rats over the years, and knowing that term would have made our conversations more entertaining.  One of us would/does call them "nekkid" mole rats.  I'll leave it to you to figure out who.

...that a leaf can look like a chicken foot.  If you, you know, look at it kind of quick.
...that seeing a chicken-foot-shaped leaf on your front porch will take you back to your childhood and being told that your grandmother's favorite part of the chicken was the foot.  This stays with you deep into your 60s, and you've never ever been able to come up with an answer to, "What is there even to EAT on a chicken foot?  There's NO MEAT THERE."

...that you should NOT Google "Can you eat a chicken foot."  Y'all are made of strong stuff, I know, but if you're willing to test your mettle, go on...

My grandfather had a thing for pig's feet. It's probably why I'm a vegetarian. That and my other grandfather being a butcher. Oh, and our Italian landlady cooking and serving us my pet duck.
