About Last Night

Image
NO.  I do NOT find them cute in the slightest. Especially when surprising me by being on the front storm door as I took Tap out. The grasshopper there I could deal with.

I Must Say

Image
No, not that "I must say." The "I had wondered if very many people would pick up on KC nominations this year, but I must say, y'all are coming through!" Thank you.

Lemme See Ya Leave Names!

I posted a fancy video on Instagram, but you will get this photo and appreciate.* *Mama's had a bit of a day.

My Sunday

Ever have a day just get away from you?  Like, you think you've been getting things accomplished, you feel productive, but you look around and can't see any proof of those things?

Truths

I'm not going to lie to you --- I've been eating a lot of ice cream lately.  Jeni's , thank you very much.  I'm a moosher;  how about you?  Let the ice cream sit for a little before actually digging in, then spoon up the meltiness?  Stir it around to get it smooth all over?  Briton is mad for milkshakes, which I'll say is genetic.  Dale loved to make and eat ice cream, which, of course, is pretty soft by nature.  Hannah is a fellow Jeni's fiend, so, yeah, there's the family portrait. My eye is much better, which I can tell mostly by how it stings when I put the drops and/or ointment in.  I know you're always supposed to take your full complement of antibiotics, but I'm letting it go for now. Have you come up with any nominations?  I've got 2.  But many days to go.

Thinking Caps On

Soooooo. . . I'm thinking that next week needs to be the stretch of days people can submit nominations for Knitters' Companion.  That way, we can start voting after Labor Day. Soooooo. . . Get yourself to thinking about who you'd like to share your crafting space, process or products with.  Everyone can nominate up to 6 people.  No one needs nominate Bill Nighy or Daniel Levy, as they will go into the draw based on being the last two last year. Soooooo. . .  GO!

Foodstuffs

Image
I'm not too terribly worldly about food.  I've eaten some weird things, but that doesn't equate to wisdom.  Still, when I placed my latest  Market Wagon  order for assorted eggplant, I wasn't expecting this: I did not know there was white eggplant.  But there they are.  Along with what I can only call big-a$$ Brussels sprouts and delicious leeks. I also got some okra and cheddar cornbread muffins, which, as you can see, have been partaken of freely and often.

It's Only Words

Wait, wait, wait.  The Latin word for ant is "formica"?  Makes you rethink your countertops, doesn't it? I say it again, ants can't lie. A refrigerator, it would seem, frigerates things again. "What the caterpillar sees as the end, the world sees as a butterfly." The verb "duck" preceded the noun "duck"?  Doesn't seem right, but that's apparently how it happened. Isn't "shotgun" redundant?  Don't all guns shoot?  It's like calling it a "hithammer." Think about this: since amoebas reproduce by asexual division, the original amoeba still exists today. I have to think that whoever invented the suit did so after having a vision of Colin Firth, Who Was To Come.

Whee

Today I am both clinically depressed and  depressed in the lay sense.

They Vex Me

Image
I've been pondering these yarns all weekend.  I bought them together, on clearance at Jo-Ann, and it was surely because I imagined using them as stripes or something.  As you can see, I've tried things a couple of times, but nothing has stuck.  And I'm vexed. My eye is still irritated and irritating.  It looks a bit red and swollen, but that may be from people looking at it last night.  Or it may be the onset of some sort of infection.  The doctor said that was a possibility, so the antibiotics are both treatment for now and prevention of anything yet to come.

Can You See Me Now?

Just back from the 24-hour clinic --- my left eye has been bothering me all day.  Right on the inside corner, like the tear duct was irritated or something.  I'm so pathetically nearsighted that I hadn't been able to see anything for myself. Long short: there are no obvious abrasions or real swelling.  I've got antibiotic cream and drops now.  We'll see. I mean, y'all'll probably see.  Me, I hopeless without lenses.

Whisker-Thin

It's 11:58 PM, and I'm keeping my every-day-in-August posting streak alive, even though nothing even remotely interesting happened in my life today.

Shuffle

Image
I changed the furniture in the den today.  It was strictly on a whim.  I'm not sure everything will stay where it is, but it was kind of fun. I hung the jigsaw puzzle I posted about a little while ago on the front door. Babystep changes.

*Ears Releasing Steam*

I've really just about had it with Google.  How many ways can I tell it that I'm me?

Locked Out

Image
No matter what page I try, today the only thing I'm getting from my computer is "Page Unresponsive."  I cannot do or go anywhere.  Nothing that I have tried has fixed it.  And I am mad about it. But here's a something saved in my phone:

Not My Rock

Image
I am reading and re-reading parts of the Rorshach biography.  It speaks powerfully to the social psychologist in me.  Yet one of the passages speaks to the knitter: I did not know that about red, or about colors advancing and receding.  Sometimes we as crafters get deep into color selection, and this paragraph fascinates me. Also dealing with color: Tap and I came across this on a walk a couple of days ago.  My initials, my color palette, but not my work. Also, if you haven't seen today's Google doodle, go check it out.  And read its story.

Pressing Questions

Twinnie asked why my neighbor didn't bring my mail over day by day.  Apparently, he didn't notice anything until Friday, when he saw the carrier putting stuff in the extra box.  Since there's no one living in their basement right now, he knew something was weird. Bridget points the accusing finger at Louis DeJoy.  Though maybe not involved in my issue particularly, pointing at him works just on principle.

Nor Gloom of Night

Image
Okay.  I live at the end of this street.  (Whether it's the beginning end or ending end, of course, depends on which way you're going.)  This driveway is the one that mail carriers use to turn their vehicles around and start delivering on the street's other side.  This led years  ago, to the Post Office suggesting that we move our mailbox away from the street and closer to the house. Cool. Over the years, there have been a few hiccups without the house number being on the curb: delivery drivers have missed on their first pass, that sort of thing. Fine. Now, the house next door has a fully finished, inhabitable basement, so there are two mailboxes at the end of their driveway.  (You already see where this is going, huh?)  I remember one single time that our mail was put into that extra mailbox because I assume, the mail carrier didn't see a mailbox at "the next house." So. For several weekends, I got no mail.  None.  And none of my waiting mai...

Still Very Little

It was a kind of breezy-ish day here today --- cool enough that I've been able to turn the air conditioner off.  It's unclear if that will hold.  Here's hoping. A Saturday spent doing little chores around the house.  BOR.  ING.  When I took a break, I found "The Natural" on TV and settled in with some knitting to watch it.  When a movie you've seen before and know the ending to, can still set your heart thumping a bit, it's a good one. Twiinie, how did the popcorn ice cream go?

Yuck and Yum

So, yeah, the news lately keeps one on one's couch, snacking on ice cream and/or popcorn, or, possibly, something that combines  both .

Suffering for My Weather

Image
The Head says, "Hey, Kim?*  You love those rainy days?  Here's a never-ending, though- occasionally-weakening headache for you." Here's my Trap Shawl.  If you've ever made one, you know it's a little tricky to photograph.  It's especially difficult when you decide to just knit until your yarn runs out. Also, the latest cast-on.  The pattern is called "The Easiest Scarf," and I just have the download of it;  I don't know where I found it. Y'all know I love my confetti yarns.  This is "Black Raspberry" from Cloudborn Fibers.  (Yes --- I can tell you the yarn I'm using!  If the cut-off band wasn't still on the coffee table from yesterday, I'd have no idea.) Also, my hair has looked good today. *Man, I never hear my name.  Nicely done, head.

It's 8:30

And I'm going to bed.  I've fought a stomach thing since 4:30 this morning and I'm just super tired.  But I did finish the Trap Shawl, and started another wrap. Pictures tomorrow?

Hey, You Know What?

Image
It's time to start thinking about Knitters' Companion!  If there are enough people out there interested in playing, that is.  When I quit Facebook, I relieved myself of a handful of misgivings, but also cut my "audience" and contacts done to practically nothing.  After having only 7 folks enter the 2000 contest, I wonder about interest in KC.  Of course, since everyone can nominate up to six people, if the same 7 enter, plus myself, there'd be anywhere between 8 and 48 entries.  We can run a contest with that, don'tcha think?  Let's all put it on our calendars for later this month. And, in case you've forgotten, defending the KC crown: William Nighy.

Bless His Heart

Image
For those of you who have dogs, or just have in your body of knowledge what a bully stick is, I present this photo. Guy on the right?  Bless.  His.  Heart.

"What Day Is It?" Check

Image
So, I was asleep by 7:30 last night, which meant I was up at 3 AM making haystack cookies and taking more ibuprofen PM. Therefore, I got up "for good" at 2:20 this afternoon.  If any of you have had a really bad headache, you know what a rebound headache is.  That's the discomfort I've dealt with today.  That and the kind of disorientation you feel when you're completely out of sync with the clock. I am getting sort of close to the end of my Trap Shawl.  That's the main knitting I've been doing lately, as it's easy to make good progress on.  I have got to move on to something more substantial, more challenging, but I've got a while to think on exactly what.

Maybe Tomorrow

Tucking myself in when I remembered I'm supposed to be posting every day.  The head, it HURTS.  The day, it is being abandoned.

Harsh Reality

Image
Twinnie pointed out that the term "running off" from the last post would be an unfamiliar one to many these days.   I have reached That Age. My son said to me the other day that he's seeing an entire generation behind him, and that was a sobering thought.  He's right, of course, but still. Wait until there's three or four of them back there, kid.

So, Do You?

Image
I forgot to mention the conversation the cashier at Barnes & Noble and I had.  She remarked on how old my B&N card was.  It was in a nice way, as in my having been a customer for a long time.  That led to a discussion of how credit cards used to be, which led to carbon paper, which led to this: Do you remember?  The smell, the kinda-cold-kinda-damp feel?  Every single time I think about it, those flood in.  It was a big deal to get picked to go run something off.

A Regular Whirlwind

Today was the first day of school here.  Sheer craziness.  School should start in September.  On this I will not be moved. For a while, the county schools and UGA had their calendars in sync, but that's only a memory now.  Classes don't start there for a week or so, but the number of U-Hauls on the streets means the students are starting to pour back in. A rainy day today.  I knit and watched a movie ("The Door," with Helen Mirren), caught up on some streaming stuff ("The Extraordinary Attorney Woo"), read, went to Barnes & Noble trying to find Tim Miller's book (it's sold out everywhere I've looked for it), ran into Publix to get cat litter. Whee.

Oh Hai, Hermann

There are only 10 inkblots in Dr. Rorschach's test. Go on.  What do you see? This, by the way, is Hermann Rorschach

Getting Real

Do you think I can summon up a post each day this month?  Considering that I'm about to nod off as I write this, and the "do you think" thing is all I can come up with. . .  Maybe not.
