Quick Review

"Nomadland."  See it.  It's slow and sort of sad and just gorgeous to look at. (It also has David Strathairn, one of My Favorite Actors.)

Stitches and Flowers

Image
Not flowers that I received because I got stitches.  Rather, flowers that Tap and I saw in the neighborhood today:  The house where these are also has a bright yellow front door.  Very Springish on this 70-degree February  day. And, the stitches: You can see the bruising stretching down toward the lower left corner of the photo.  Everything's still a little tender, which is still surprising.  I'm going to keep the stitches covered, as those little ends look like they're on the prowl for something to snag on.

Day Two

Image
Today, there is bruising. I bruise so dang easily I shouldn't be surprised.  Only getting two stitches and not having slammed my hand against anything, this has to be from the injections of lidocaine.  Whatever, the thumb is quite sore today.  But I can knit. Yes, when I got home, I finished making the casserole.  It's weird, but as I was sharpening the knife (holding the sharpener in my left hand), I thought, "Don't slip and cut yourself."  The next instant, I cut myself.

There Will Be Blood (Seriously. Skip if you'll get queasy.)

Image
In the middle of making this delicious casserole:  I sliced into my left thumb sharpening a knife.  Thankfully, Briton was on his way over to deliver Girl Scout cookies he had bought for me and took me to an urgent care clinic. This is about the sixth change of gauze while I was waiting --- the bleeding just wouldn't stop.  Even after I was stitched up (2 stitches), it was still bleeding.  So, pressure bandage for me: Ten days 'til the stitches come out.  If this interferes with my knitting, I'll be really cheesed.

Probably Tone Deaf

I'm sitting in a warm house with water.  It is almost unfathomable to me that millions in Texas have been, and continue to be, without either.  Knowing that makes what I'm about to post seem glib, but it caused a huge smile and applause on my part today.                                          We have landed on Mars. These are pictures of Mars. MARS.

Daughter's Cat Guy

He has a name now. Theobald.  Sometimes called "Theo," sometimes "Teddy."

Day of Birth

Image
Birthday flowers from my bestie Lisa. Birthday  Bundtini  from myself. No photo of keyboard and phone used to spend birthday day calling and writing senators. Various birthday reading: Scarf knitting, sock knitting --- not pictured, either. Now off to bed.

What's So Hard About That?

Image
As much as I love football, Super Bowls almost always disappoint me.  It shouldn't be too much to expect an interesting, competitive game. . .

Screen Test?

Image
In my Misfits box last week was a bunch of carrots with greens still attached.  I've never had that before.  If I had a baguette and a paper bag of groceries, I could be anyone coming home from the store in the movies. That's my breadmaker, by the way, and my lion cookie jar (which has never held anything but candy.)

Shock

Image
Yesterday I rewatched "The Fisher King" because I hadn't seen it in a while, and the performances in it are simply astounding.  One of the main characters is played by Amanda Plummer, one of my favorite actresses.  I opened up my phone to text Briton and gush about the film, and was confronted with the news that Amanda's father had died. I honestly lost my breath for a second and then sat staring for a couple of minutes.  I don't know when Christopher Plummer hit my radar, but it was many, many years ago, and he never left it.  What a sad day.

Roundup

Image
Last night, I made some sourdough cornbread. I was finally successful with a sourdough starter, and, having planned to make cornbread yesterday, I winged it and combined the two.  It worked out very well. The whole bread thing gives me at least one thing to do each day.  Walking Tap is another.  Otherwise, I'm still pretty much at a loss.  The appointment with my psychiatrist is tomorrow morning, so. . .  Fingers crossed. Some of you have been blizzarded in the last couple of day;  I hope you're all well and warm.  It's been cold and windy here, to the point of Mr. Tap curling up on the quilt that's just in front of a heat vent.  Madeleine and Riley are out on the back porch in the sunshine most of every day.  Also, those space heaters I had to buy are getting good use.

What I Said

True to my word, I'm not revisiting what I wrote last time, but I do so appreciate your support.  You're helping lift a burden, and I thank you.
