Riley has gone blind.  She's 20 this year, as I've reported here before, so nothing health-wise should come as a huge surprise.

It's been a while;  I realized it within the week after Madeleine died.  For a few days, she posted up in the cats' room (repurposed from being the dining room.)  This was when it was very cold, so she stayed around the air vent.  Now, she moves around really well, going up and down the stairs, out onto the back porch --- a favorite spot of hers, into and around the kitchen.

She has never been a run in the room, hi how are ya, pet me please kind of cat, so, she's being very herself.  She's eating, which is good of course.  I saw/see no need to rush her to the vet, as her behavior is normal for her.  Except for bumping into a chair every now and again.

My last Yorkie went blind at 5 and it took me a long time and a fall into the creek for me to realize it. She got along really well and lived to be 18. I had to be extra cautious about her falling though. I still have the lattice on the deck and the baby gates around the house that we had put up for her and she's been gone 11 years now.

I'm sure she will live very comfortably for the rest of her (hopefully many more) days!

If I've learned anything from my pets, it's that things we worry about are no big deal to them. They just adapt and move on. Please give her a kiss and/or pet from me, if she will allow you.

It was amazing to us how our blind cat adapted. We were careful around her not to move to quickly. She remained happy in every other way!

I'm so sorry to hear about Riley. I'm sitting here by my new cabinet painting in my kitchen just thinking of you. Prayers and blessings be upon you. Thanks for being so vulnerable with us.
