Magi

Let's see if I can scrounge up some wisdom here, and answer Kathy's Monday Questions.

Have you ever been stuck in an airport?  Where?  For how long?
Yes, in Newark.  It was snowing, and the planes were having to be de-iced.  It wasn't a horror story --- may an hour, an hour and a half?  I truly can't remember.

Have you eaten any holiday goodies yet?
No, unless you want to count my Christmas nougats:
We bake cookies on Christmas Eve, so we aren't overrun or over-tempted by goodies right now.

If you made socks with all the sock yarn in your stash, how many pair would you make?
Oh, I can't even begin to figure that out.  Lots.  Let's just say lots.

What is the best yarn store you've ever been to?
Yarn, in Charleston.  Sadly, it's no longer there.  It was a jewel.

Have you seen anyone wear a Santa hat this season?
My son has a cardboard standee of "Rey,"
and he's put a Santa hat on it.  There was also someone wearing one at the car dealership I went to today.  (For service;  don't get excited about a new car. . .  :[ )

Have you played a fun game and want to share?
Hmmmm. . .  Not in a while.  I like board games, but haven't broken any of them out lately.  I play Alpha Betty on my phone several times a day.

Peppermint or gingerbread?
Peppermint.  (I remind you again of the nougats. . .)  I don't like gingerbread.

Have you cancelled a subscription lately?  How did the company respond?
No --- all my subscriptions are intact.

What should I bring to a 90-yer-old's birthday celebration?
Knit slippers?  A knit lap blanket?  Flowers?

Tell us a favorite holiday gift you remember from your childhood.
Wow.  The first thing that came to mind is a drum set.  Then, I remember my first record player, a big purple poodle stuffed animal, and the football jersey of a favorite player.  They all tumble together.  I think I got my Mark Spitz poster for Christmas.  That was sweet.

I'd love to finish reading this post but I can't get past "I don't like gingerbread."

If I edited to say, "There are things I enjoy more than gingerbread," could you go on? 'Cause you're missing a great payoff at the end. . . .

I was stuck in the Fort Myers airport with our then-3- and 8-year-old sons for 12 hours, starting at ~3pm. The worst part was that my in-laws felt they needed to stay with us "to keep us company." We had just spent a week with them; although I love them, I was ready to be done with them, plus I felt responsible for them. Finally I persuaded them to leave at about midnight. Our replacement plane arrived at 3am, and the kids and I boarded. Tragically, the seat behind me was filled with a 6'4" cowboy who (understandably) requested that I not recline my seat.

In contrast, the plane did NOT crash on the way back to Minnesota, nor did I have a car accident on the way home from the airport. Home never felt so good.
